Grand Rapids' Vista Charter Academy was recognized as the WXMI FOX 17 School of the Week during the week of December 17-December 21, 2007. The news segments highlighted the following:

  • The school’s small classroom size and additional teaching staff
  • The commitment and passion the students exhibit for serving the community through special projects and fundraisers
  • The unique ways our students learn through field trips and in-school activities
  • The rigorous academic program that prepares our elementary and middle school students for college and higher learning

Vista Charter Academy outperformed neighboring school districts on the 2006-2007 MEAP tests. It was recognized on the Michigan Association of Public School Academies’ (MAPSA) list of top 40 state charter schools that beat the odds and had outstanding results on the MEAP.

In 2002, Vista received the MAPSA Summit Award for Excellence. Vista was recognized because of its Commitment to Excellence Agreement signed by teachers, students, and their parents before the school year begins. It was also noted for its enhanced learning programs.

Honors Night
Each spring Vista hosts “Honors Night” to be sure all children who go above and beyond the average academics are recognized. Honors Night range from Academic Excellence Awards, in which students must have a 3.5 or above G.P.A. for all four quarters, to Academic Efforts Awards given to students who may not have received the highest G.P.A. but have worked consistently towards their academic goals.

Students are nominated by their teachers, whether it is their homeroom teachers or their specials teachers for the awards. In 2009, over 150 students were invited to Honors Night.
